Four corner vignettes depict Scottish architectural and maritime scenes, including a harbour and a castle, set within an orange and blue guilloche underprint. The bank title THE NATIONAL BANK OF SCOTLAND LIMITED is engraved in bold letterpress across the top, with the denomination ONE POUND in ornate intaglio script at centre, the place and date of issue Edinburgh below, and the promise-to-pay legend and board of directors authorisation completing the face. |
