| Obverse description | The obverse is dominated by a large central vignette of the Scottish Royal Arms flanked by two rampant unicorn supporters, with a portrait oval to the left bearing a bearded male figure identified by inscription as the Marquess of Lothian. Four corner vignettes depict Scottish architectural and maritime scenes, including a harbour and a castle, set within an orange and blue guilloche underprint.
