| Opmerkingen |
The Royal Bank of Scotland's £1 note series continued well past the point when the Bank of England had withdrawn its own £1 note from circulation — England's last £1 note was issued in 1984 and demonetized in 1988, but Scottish banknotes operate under a separate legal framework that has never required parity of denominations with the Bank of England. RBS kept the pound note alive largely for practical reasons: vending machines and public transport infrastructure in Scotland were calibrated for it.
Charles Winter served as Managing Director during a period of significant structural change within the bank. De La Rue had been the RBS printer of record for decades by this point, the relationship long predating this series.
