1 Pound propaganda from German North Africa

During the North Africa campaign, German military intelligence produced counterfeit British Military Authority pound notes intended for circulation in occupied territories — a psychological and economic warfare operation designed to destabilize Allied supply chains and undermine confidence in occupation currency. This piece belongs to that program. The forgeries were produced with enough technical competence to pass casual inspection, though paper composition and serial number sequences eventually allowed Allied authorities to identify and withdraw compromised notes.

The operation never achieved meaningful economic disruption. Rommel's retreat from El Alamein in late 1942 effectively ended any practical distribution window.
