Obverse description The upper portion carries a calligraphic title inscription in ornate script above JERSEY in serifed capitals, flanked by an oval vignette at the upper left enclosing the Jersey coat of arms within a laurel wreath and a matching wreath cartouche at the upper right. A bold letterpress underprint reading BRITISH spans the centre, overlaid by manuscript text constituting the promise to pay. The denomination ONE POUND BRITISH appears in a rectangular panel at the lower left, with handwritten signatures and an ENT'd notation at the foot.
Obverse lettering Parish of St. Helier JERSEY. By virtue of an Act of the Committee of the Roads relative to BELMONT ROAD. Dated 12th Nov. 1835. No. _ I Promise to pay the Bearer on Demand ONE POUND BRITISH Value rec.d 15th day of Jan. 1836. ENT.d
