Obverse description The left side of the note carries an intaglio-engraved vignette of the Jersey coat of arms set within an oval cartouche, surrounded by military trophies including cannon, flags, and a drum, with the printer's imprint 'Lake Tokenhouse Yard London' beneath. The header bears the bank title 'Old Bank, Jersey' in ornate copperplate script flanked by decorative guilloche panels, with the year '1797' enclosed in an oval below. The promise-to-pay text in elaborate copperplate reads across the centre, with 'ROYAL SQUARE' in a separate cartouche below and a bold letterpress denomination panel reading 'ONE POUND' at the lower left, with manuscript date and entry spaces left blank.
