Obverse description Printed in blue and yellow with a guilloche underprint, the obverse carries a central engraved vignette of Marischal College, Aberdeen at the top, flanked by large numeral '1' counters on each side within a decorative border. The bank's heraldic arms appear at the lower left, with additional armorial shields at the corners, while the issuer's name is set in bold letterpress across the centre above the promise-to-pay text. The note bears a printed date of 1st March 1928 alongside two manuscript signatures above the printed designation of General Manager.

Reverse description The reverse is executed in blue-green on a pale plain ground, centred on a large circular vignette of the bank's full heraldic arms — supported by two flanking figures and surmounted by a crest — enclosed within an ornate guilloche rosette border carrying the statutory inscription around its circumference. A vertical guilloche panel runs along the right margin, and the printer's imprint is placed along the lower edge.
