New Alamein City is a planned urban development launched by the Egyptian government as part of its broader initiative to relieve population pressure on the Nile Delta — the same policy framework that produced the better-known New Administrative Capital project. The commemorative coin issue marked the official launch of construction, which began in earnest around 2017–2018 on the Mediterranean coast west of Alexandria.
