Obverse description A finely engraved panoramic vignette of Douglas harbour occupies the upper portion of the note, rendered in detailed intaglio with sailing vessels in the foreground and the town extending across the hillside to the right. The central field carries a large red guilloche underprint with the denomination "ONE" worked through it, overlaid with the promise-to-pay text in copperplate script. Large ornate red numeral "1" counters appear at each upper corner, with the issuer's title in bold letterpress across the middle, and spaces for date, serial number, and the Secretary and Manager signatures at the foot.
