The Isle of Man Bank Limited, though chartered locally, operated under close structural ties to Martins Bank on the mainland — a relationship that shaped its note-issuing policy throughout the interwar and postwar decades. Waterlow & Sons produced the series across a remarkably long print window, meaning notes dated across the full 1938–1960 span share essentially the same plate design with only date and signature changes distinguishing them.

Signature varieties are the real collecting variable here. At least three distinct cashier and manager combinations are known across the run, and earlier signed examples carry a modest premium over the later ones.
