Piedforts have been issued by the Royal Mint as collector pieces since their revival in 1982, produced at exactly double the standard flan thickness. The Scottish pound in this four-coin rotation — England, Scotland, Wales, Northern Ireland — completed its second full cycle in 1994, the Lion Rampant design having first appeared on the circulating £1 in 1984.
Mintage for piedfort issues of this period was typically capped in the low thousands, making survival in original presentation packaging the norm rather than the exception.
