Eadie Island sits in the remote South Orkney Islands, administered under the British Antarctic Territory since its formal establishment in 1962. The BAT issues coinage less as circulating currency than as a jurisdictional assertion — the territory has no permanent civilian population, only rotating scientific staff at Signy Research Station, operated by the British Antarctic Survey.
