| Description du revers | The Royal Shield of Arms is depicted in full, quartered and displayed centrally within a beaded border, occupying the majority of the reverse field. The first and fourth quarters show the three passant guardant lions of England; the second quarter bears the rampant lion of Scotland within a double tressure flory-counterflory; the third quarter displays the Irish harp. The denomination ONE POUND flanks the shield horizontally in the field to the left and right, with the lettering arranged vertically. The design, by Matthew Dent, features crisp, sharply struck detail throughout, consistent with the proof striking. |
