The portrait is rendered in high relief with fine detail on the crown's floral and foliate ornamentation. The circular legend reads ELIZABETH II DEI GRA REG FID DEF with the date 2016, separated by raised dots. The engraver's initials J.C. appear below the truncation of the bust. This portrait, introduced in 2015, was the first to be designed by a Royal Mint staff engraver in over a century. |

| Description du revers | The reverse, designed and engraved by Gregory Cameron, features a bold heraldic composition of the four national beasts of the United Kingdom arranged in the four quarters formed by two diagonal crossed lines meeting at the centre. A Tudor crown occupies the central intersection. In the upper-left quarter is the Welsh dragon; upper-right, the lion of England; lower-left, the Scottish unicorn; and lower-right, the lion of England passant. The denomination ONE POUND is inscribed in the upper and lower fields respectively, with the engraver's initials G.R.C. visible in the lower central field. |
