G. Waterston & Sons had printed Bank of Scotland notes for generations by the time this series was running, and the relationship showed in the consistency of production across nearly a decade of issue. The transition from Crawford to Watson as co-signatory in 1953 — while Elphinstone remained constant throughout — marks the only structural change in the series and gives collectors a clean way to periodize the signature combinations.
