| Beschrijving voorzijde | Central round hole surrounded by Arabic legend arranged in two lines across the field, reading 'Belanja-an Kerajaan Kelantan' (Currency of the Kelantan State). The inscription is rendered in flowing Arabic script, filling the annular field on either side of the central perforation. The overall design is characteristic of cast Malay tin coinage, with the lettering occupying the full available surface in a traditional layout. |

The pitis was the workhorse small denomination of the Malay sultanates, struck in tin because the peninsula had it in abundance and silver was too valuable for petty trade. Kelantan's issues from this period were produced under Muhammad IV while the state remained nominally independent — the Anglo-Siamese Treaty formalizing British influence over Kelantan wouldn't come until 1909, six years after this piece was struck.
Tin pitis from Kelantan are frequently found corroded or misshapen, the metal being particularly unforgiving in the region's humidity.
