| Beschrijving keerzijde | Central field displays the coat of arms of Aragon, consisting of a shield bearing the four pallets (vertical bars) of the House of Barcelona, finely engraved in the hammered technique. The heraldic shield is set within a double beaded inner circle. Two concentric Latin legends encircle the shield: the inner legend reads + o P o DЄI o GR`A o ARAGOn o SICIL : RЄX o, identifying Peter III of Aragon as King of Sicily, while the outer legend reads + o SUMMA o POTЄnCIA o ЄS o T o In DЄO o, a devotional inscription proclaiming that supreme power resides in God. The composition is characteristic of the Aragonese-Sicilian monetary reform following the Sicilian Vespers of 1282. |
