Henneberg-Schleusingen was a small Franconian county that had, by 1503, already begun its slow demographic collapse — the male line of the ruling Henneberg family would die out entirely in 1583, at which point the territory passed to the Wettin dynasty under a succession treaty signed decades earlier. William V ruled during this twilight period, and the tiny silver pfennig issues of his reign reflect the county's diminished but still-functioning mint operation at Schleusingen.
