Additional information

Ulrich VIII ruled Montfort-Rothenfels during a period when the county's finances were under persistent strain, and small billon issues like this pfennig were a practical response to chronic shortages of small change across the fragmented southwestern German territories. The County of Montfort itself was subdivided repeatedly through inheritance across the fifteenth and sixteenth centuries, leaving individual lines with limited resources and correspondingly modest minting programs.

MB#14 places this among the rarer pfennig types of the series.
