Konrad von Lichtenberg governed the Bishopric of Strasbourg from 1273 until his death in 1299, a tenure marked by persistent friction with the city's burghers and an ambitious building program at Strasbourg Cathedral. These bracteate-style pfennigs circulated within a regional economy where episcopal and civic monetary authority overlapped uneasily — the bishop held minting rights by imperial grant, but the city was already asserting enough independence to challenge them within decades of Konrad's death.
The "Lilienpfennig" designation comes from collector tradition, not contemporary usage.
