Gerhard of Schwarzburg's tenure as Bishop of Würzburg lasted barely four years — he died in 1400, likely from wounds sustained at the Battle of Pillenreuth, where he fought alongside the Nuremberg forces against the Burgrave Frederick VI of Hohenzollern. That military entanglement, unusual for a sitting bishop, cut short both his reign and the production window for this issue.
