Gerhard of Schwarzburg's tenure as Bishop of Würzburg lasted barely four years — he died in 1400, likely from wounds sustained at the Battle of Pillenreuth, where he fought alongside the Nuremberg forces against the Burgrave Frederick VI of Hohenzollern.
