| Obverse description | Central field depicts a mitred bishop's head in facing or three-quarter view, rendered in a bold, archaic style characteristic of late medieval German hammered coinage. The mitre is prominently detailed, surmounted by a small cross finial. The image is set within a roughly circular flan with irregular edges typical of hand-struck pfennigs of the period. The die work is crude but purposeful, consistent with the regional episcopal mint production of Würzburg under Bishop Gerhard of Schwarzburg. |
