Flanking towers with battlements rise on either side of a central arched gateway, with additional decorative elements visible in the lower field suggesting an arcade or foundation course. The design is typical of medieval civic coinage where the mint city is symbolized by its principal fortification or gate. The legend HAGENOWE is inscribed around the periphery in Roman capitals, naming the mint city.
