Reverse description The reverse bears the initial 'E' in Gothic or early Renaissance letterform, serving as the monogram of Bishop Ernest of Bavaria (Ernst von Bayern), the issuing authority of the Bishopric of Passau during this period. The letter is placed centrally within the field, which is otherwise unadorned. The plain, unlettered edge and the rough flan are consistent with hammered pfennig coinage of early sixteenth-century southern Germany. No additional inscription or decorative border is present.
