Döberitz, located about 25 kilometers west of Berlin, held Allied prisoners during the First World War. Camp-issued Lagergeld like this note was a deliberate administrative tool — prisoners were paid for labor in scrip redeemable only within the camp's canteen system, preventing real currency from accumulating in enemy hands and limiting escape funding.
