Brandenburg-Ansbach occupied an awkward position in mid-18th century German politics — a Hohenzollern cadet territory nominally subordinate to Prussia yet managing its own coinage. Charles William Frederick, known as "the Wild Margrave" for his erratic temperament and obsessive hunting culture, maintained a mint at Schwabach that produced these tiny silver pfennigs during the Seven Years' War years.
