Passau's mid-thirteenth century bracteate pfennigs fall into one of the more administratively tangled episodes in the bishopric's history. Berthold of Pietengau held the see from 1248, but Otto of Lonsdorf — his successor — was elected in 1254 while Berthold was still contesting the position, producing a brief overlap that explains the joint attribution. Coins issued under disputed or transitional ecclesiastical authority are rarely well-documented, and Kelln's attribution to this specific pairing remains the closest the scholarship gets to certainty.
