正面描述 Plain field in blue-grey cardboard bearing the large numeral '1' at center, serving as the denomination indicator. The circular legend reads 'NOTGELD 1920' along the upper arc and 'PFENNIG' along the lower arc, all in Latin capitals. Two raised dots flank the lower inscription as decorative separators. The design is simple and utilitarian, consistent with wartime and post-war German Notgeld emergency issues printed on compressed cardboard.

背面描述 Plain blue-grey cardboard field displaying the large numeral '1' at center-right, flanked to the left by the two-line inscription 'STADT CASSEL' in the upper portion of the field. Below, the word 'PFENNIG' is rendered in bold Latin capitals spanning the lower half of the design. At the base, the crowned civic arms of Cassel are depicted in outline form, consisting of a crowned shield with decorative scrollwork supporters on either side, representing the municipal authority of the issuing city.

附加信息

Kassel issued cardboard notgeld pfennigs in 1920 because the postwar metal shortage had made conventional coin production genuinely impractical at the municipal level — the city simply could not source enough copper or zinc to strike small-denomination pieces. Cardboard emergency currency of this kind was produced by dozens of German cities and towns between 1917 and 1921, with local printers handling what the Reichsmünzen could not.

The Tieste cataloguing system remains the primary reference for these municipal issues, and the Va series designation places this piece among the later Kassel cardboard types.
