| Reverse description | The reverse presents a forward-facing bust of Juan Pablo Duarte, founding father and national hero of the Dominican Republic, depicted with characteristic moustache and bow tie in a refined portrait style. The legend PADRE DE LA PATRIA curves along the upper rim, with the name DUARTE inscribed in small lettering to the lower right of the portrait. Four five-pointed stars are evenly distributed around the lower portion of the field, flanking two small decorative rosette ornaments at the sides. The date of issue appears in the exergue below. |

The Dominican Republic's switch to brass-plated steel for the 1 Peso reflected a broader Latin American trend in the 2000s of replacing solid alloy coins with cheaper steel-core alternatives as metal commodity prices spiked globally. The magnetic property is the functional tell — and the catalog distinction from the earlier KM#80 bronze-aluminum issue.
