Obverse description This face bears the counterstamp applied by Guatemala, consisting of the obverse design of the Guatemalan 1/2 Real of 1894: a quetzal bird with spread wings perched atop a scroll, flanked by laurel branches, with a rifle and sword crossed beneath. The circular counterstamp is applied over the original Chilean host coin's field. The surrounding legend of the host coin reads POR LA RAZON Y LA FUERZA along the upper arc, with the fineness and weight specifications 10 D.s 20 G.s at the base. The date 1894 and fineness 0.835 appear within the counterstamp impression.
