Obverse description The Cuban national arms occupy the central field, depicting a shield charged with a key between two capes and a rising sun over a seascape, surmounted by a Phrygian cap on a staff, and flanked by an oak branch to the left and a laurel branch to the right. The legend REPUBLICA DE CUBA arcs along the upper periphery in raised Latin letters, while the denomination I PESO appears in the lower field beneath the shield. The design is executed in moderate relief on a smooth field, consistent with standard Cuban coinage of the period.
