During the Spanish Civil War, the Republican zone experienced a near-total collapse of small-denomination coinage — metal had vanished into hoarding and wartime requisition. Hundreds of local bodies, cooperatives, and municipal councils responded by issuing their own paper emergency currency, known as *moneda de necessitat*. This note from the Cooperativa Obrera Pastisseria Mutua in Vic belongs to that sprawling, decentralized monetary improvisation: a bakery workers' cooperative producing its own peseta scrip.
Indústries Gràfiques Viladot handled a significant volume of this emergency material out of Barcelona. The issuing cooperative's narrow trade base — pastry and bakery workers — means surviving examples turn up rarely outside Osona regional collections.
