备注

Quintana de la Serena is a small municipality in the Badajoz province of Extremadura, and this 1 peseta note is one of hundreds of locally issued emergency fractional currencies — conocidos as billetes de necesidad — that flooded Republican-held Spain after the military uprising of July 1936 drained metallic coin from circulation almost overnight. Municipal councils, trade unions, and even individual businesses became de facto note issuers out of sheer necessity, with no central authorization and wildly inconsistent printing quality.

The Gari Monopoli catalog documents this issue as variant B, implying at least two distinguishable types from this single small town — a detail that hints at more than one print run or a handstamp variation.
