Opmerkingen

Menàrguens is a small municipality in the Noguera comarca of Lleida, and like hundreds of Catalan towns, its ajuntament issued emergency fractional currency during the Spanish Civil War after the Republic's coinage effectively vanished from circulation in 1936–37. These locally issued pieces — collectively catalogued under the broader *bitllets locals* corpus — were stop-gap instruments, often produced in very small print runs on whatever card stock was available at the time.

The Turró reference places this among the documented emissions, but surviving examples from minor municipalities like Menàrguens are genuinely uncommon. Low initial quantities combined with near-zero collector interest at the time of issue meant most were discarded once the emergency passed.
