Mas de Barberans is a small municipality in the Tarragona province of Catalonia, and like hundreds of similarly sized towns during the Spanish Civil War, it issued its own emergency fractional currency in 1937 when small-denomination coinage had effectively vanished from circulation — hoarded, melted, or simply absent.
