Llanes is a small coastal municipality in Asturias, and this note belongs to the vast and chaotic family of Spanish Civil War emergency paper — locally issued fractional currency produced by municipalities, trade unions, and cooperatives when the Republican government failed to maintain adequate supplies of small-denomination coin after 1936.
