1 Peseta Guadix

Guadix, a modest provincial town in Granada's Baza depression, issued its own fractional currency during the early months of the Spanish Civil War as small-denomination coinage vanished from circulation almost overnight. Republican-controlled municipalities across Spain — hundreds of them — were forced to print or stamp their own emergency scrip simply to conduct daily commerce. The Guadix issue is among the more obscure of these local emissions, catalogued under Gari Mon rather than the more widely referenced Cuhaj/Pick emergency series, which itself signals how thin the collector documentation remains.

Surviving examples are rarely encountered outside Spanish specialist auctions.
