Cogul is a small village in the Garrigues comarca of Lleida province — a settlement unlikely to appear in most monetary histories. During the early months of the Civil War, the Republican government's loss of control over coin supplies forced municipalities across Catalonia to produce their own emergency fractional currency. Cogul's issue was among the most rudimentary: locally produced on card stock, validated only by an official stamp in place of any sophisticated anti-counterfeiting measure.
Turró catalogues this as #842, placing it within a class of issues so geographically marginal that survival rates are inherently low — the municipality's entire population was in the hundreds.
