Binéfar is a small agricultural town in the Huesca province of Aragon, and this 1 Peseta note is one of hundreds of emergency municipal issues that flooded Republican-held Spain during the Civil War after the Republic's small-denomination coinage effectively disappeared from circulation — hoarded, melted, or simply lost in the chaos.
