Bellcaire d'Urgell is a small municipality in the Noguera comarca of Catalonia, and this note is one of hundreds of emergency fractional issues produced by Catalan town councils during the Civil War after the Republic's small-denomination coinage effectively vanished from circulation — hoarded, melted, or simply overwhelmed by wartime disruption. The Generalitat authorized local bodies to fill the gap, and by 1937 even villages of a few hundred inhabitants were commissioning their own paper.
Imprenta Sol in Lleida produced notes for several of these small municipal clients. The Turró catalogue remains the primary reference for the full scope of Catalan local issues.
