Opmerkingen

Begues is a small municipality in the Baix Llobregat comarca, southwest of Barcelona, and like hundreds of Catalan towns during the Civil War it was forced to print its own fractional currency after the Republican government's chronic shortage of small change left local commerce essentially paralyzed. The Generalitat de Catalunya encouraged this through its Departament de Finances, which is why so many of these emergency notes were produced by the same Barcelona print shops serving multiple municipalities simultaneously.

Imprenta El Secretariat Català handled a substantial volume of this municipal wartime work. The Turró catalog remains the authoritative reference for the series, and #343 places this note squarely within that documented Catalan emergency emission.
