Opmerkingen

Alhabia is a village of a few hundred inhabitants in the Almería province of Andalusia — the kind of municipality that would never have issued its own currency under ordinary circumstances. These local emergency notes, known as "cartones" or "billetes de necesidad," proliferated across Republican-held Spain during 1936–1938 when the Civil War severed normal coin supply chains and small change became functionally unavailable. Hundreds of town councils, cooperatives, and even individual businesses issued their own scrip simply to keep commerce moving.

Papelería Lacoste in Almería served as a practical regional printer for several of these municipal issues in the province, which accounts for a certain family resemblance across notes from nearby towns. The Gari Mon catalogue remains the primary reference for this material; the "B" suffix indicates a recognized variant within the type.
