正面描述 Youthful draped bust of Queen Victoria facing left, her hair drawn back and arranged in flowing ringlets at the nape of the neck, bound with a fillet. The legend VICTORIA D:G: BRITANNIAR:REG:F:D: curves along the outer border, with the date 1856 positioned in the lower exergue and the engraver's initials LCW incused at the truncation. The entire design is enclosed within a fine toothed border. The portrait reflects Leonard Charles Wyon's refined classical style as executed for British colonial coinage of the mid-nineteenth century.

附加信息

Nova Scotia's 1856 penny was struck at the Heaton Mint in Birmingham, part of a broader colonial coinage initiative that predated Canadian Confederation by over a decade. The province managed its own currency arrangements independently of the other British North American colonies, and these coppers circulated alongside a chaotic mix of British regal issues, American cents, and locally-issued tokens.

The Heaton contract is notable: Birmingham's private mints were handling colonial work precisely because the Royal Mint in London had little appetite for small copper orders from peripheral territories.
