Obverse description Youthful draped bust of Queen Victoria facing left, her hair drawn back and arranged in flowing ringlets at the nape of the neck, bound with a fillet. The legend VICTORIA D:G: BRITANNIAR:REG:F:D: curves along the outer border, with the date 1856 positioned in the lower exergue and the engraver's initials LCW incused at the truncation. The entire design is enclosed within a fine toothed border. The portrait reflects Leonard Charles Wyon's refined classical style as executed for British colonial coinage of the mid-nineteenth century.
