Obverse description Entirely typographic design within a plain field, enclosed by a beaded border. The peripheral legend reads OIL & COLOR STORES . ARGYLE ST HOBART TON . around the full circumference. At centre, the proprietor's initials O. H. appear above the surname HEDBERG in larger bold serif capitals, the two elements separated by a short raised rule above and below, giving a cartouche-like arrangement characteristic of mid-nineteenth-century Australian tradesman's tokens.

Reverse description Entirely typographic design within a plain field, enclosed by a beaded border. The circular peripheral legend reads . O.H.HEDBERG . HOB TON . SWEDISH HOUSE HOBART continuing around the rim. The denomination ONE PENNY is prominently displayed in two lines of bold serif capitals at the centre of the field, clearly stating the token's face value.
