Obverse description Crowned effigy of King George VI facing left, wearing the Imperial State Crown, engraved by Percy Metcalfe. The portrait is the large bare-neck bust type, rendered in fine relief with careful attention to facial detail and crown ornamentation. The engraver's initials 'PM' appear discreetly below the truncation. The circular legend reads GEORGE VI KING AND EMPEROR OF INDIA, separated by a raised dot at the base, running along the inner border. A beaded outer border frames the entire design.

Reverse description The coat of arms of Jamaica occupies the central field, featuring a quartered shield with five pineapples arranged in cross formation, supported by a male and female indigenous Taino figure flanking either side. A crocodile passant surmounts the crest above the shield. The denomination ONE PENNY is inscribed vertically along the left and right margins respectively, with JAMAICA arching across the top of the field. The date is divided on either side of the shield, with '19' to the left and the final two digits to the right. A ribbon scroll at the base of the arms bears the motto INDUS UTERQUE SERVIET UNI, partially visible as UTERQUE SERVIET. A beaded outer border frames the design.
