| 正面描述 | Bare-headed left-facing effigy of King George VI occupies the central field, modelled by Thomas Humphrey Paget after his standard portrait used on all Commonwealth coinage of the reign. The king is depicted with a plain neckline and naturalistically rendered hair. The circumferential Latin legend GEORGIVS SEXTVS REX runs clockwise around the upper and lateral periphery, flanked by a fine dentillated border. The initials HP, denoting the engraver Humphrey Paget, appear discreetly at the truncation of the neck. |

| 背面描述 | The central field is dominated by a finely detailed depiction of the Dutch East India Company sailing vessel, a three-masted full-rigged ship under sail on stylised waves, referencing the historical founding of the Cape Colony. The denomination 1D appears in the lower centre of the field, flanked on each side by decorative ornamental devices. The bilingual legend SOUTH AFRICA, separated by a raised dot, arcs across the upper left, while SUID-AFRIKA arcs across the upper right, with the date of issue interposed at the top between the two inscriptions. A toothed dentillated border runs along the entire circumference. The design was executed by George Kruger Gray, whose initials KG are present on the reverse. |
