The four-digit date is split to either side of the central numeral — '19' to the left and the final two digits to the right — creating a balanced, symmetrical composition. Two sprays of oak leaves and acorns flank the design, tied together at the base with a ribbon bow, forming a wreath that frames the entire central motif. The design is attributed to Jean Baptiste Merlen and reflects the traditional, elegant style used for British Maundy coinage. |
