The effigy displays a stylised crown with prominent fleurs, rendered in the bold, somewhat crude style characteristic of hammered medieval Scottish coinage. The king's features are rendered in high relief with flowing hair visible below the crown. The surrounding legend is inscribed in uncial Latin characters reading DAVID · REX · SCOTORVM (David, King of Scots). |

| Descrizione del rovescio | A long voided cross extends to the coin's beaded inner circle, dividing the reverse field into four quarters. Each quarter contains a five-pointed mullet (star) in low relief, a design element distinctive of the Class B issue of David II's second coinage. The cross terminals reach the inner circle, and the field between the arms is clear. The surrounding uncial Latin legend names the Edinburgh mint: VILLA EDINBVRGH (Town of Edinburgh). |
